Terms

These terms are between you and 1294630 BC LTD, which operates Stoop. By joining the waitlist or creating an account, you accept them. If you do not, do not use the service.

You must be 18 or older to use Stoop.

We place people into small circles: a handful of people, one shared activity, one city, and a time you all said you were free. We tell you where and when to turn up. We assemble circles from what people tell us. We do not run a directory of people. You can see circles that are still forming and join one; you cannot browse members.

Members do not pay. Venues do, under separate agreements that have nothing to do with your account.

This part matters more than the usual version of it, so it is in plain words rather than capital letters.

• We do not promise a circle will form near you. A circle needs enough people who want the same thing in the same place. If that does not happen, it does not happen, and we will say so rather than invent one.
• We do not promise you will get along with anyone. We are introducing strangers. That is the whole proposition and also its whole risk.
• We do not vet people the way an employer would. Photo verification confirms a person matches their photo. It is not a background check, a criminal record check, or a character reference, and you should not treat it as one.
• We do not guarantee the service keeps running. It may change, break, or stop.

Stoop exists to get you into a room with people you have not met. That carries real risk, and no amount of software removes it. You are responsible for your own safety and for your own judgement about who to spend time with.

Our commitment: we design first meetups to be in public venues, we give every member a way to block and report from any conversation, and we do not share your location with other members. Those are commitments about how we build the product, not guarantees about how another person will behave — and we would rather draw that line clearly than let it blur.

If someone makes you feel unsafe, report them. If you are in danger, contact your local emergency services first — we are not an emergency service and cannot act at that speed.

• Be who you say you are. One account, real details.
• Follow the community guidelines. They are the part of this agreement that describes how to behave towards other people, and breaking them is breaking these terms.
• Turn up when you have said you will, or say that you cannot.
• Do not use Stoop to sell things, recruit, harass, or collect other members' information.
• Do not try to break, scrape, or overload the service.

What you write — your bio, your messages, your answers — stays yours. You give us permission to store and show it where the product needs to, which means to the people in your circle and in your conversations. We do not publish it elsewhere and we do not use it in marketing.

You can leave at any time. Email hello@stoop.place and we will close your account and remove your information, subject to the exceptions in the privacy policy.

We can suspend or remove an account that breaks these terms or the guidelines, or where someone is putting other members at risk. Where we can explain why, we will. Where explaining would put the person who reported it at risk, we will not.

We are responsible for running the service honestly and carefully. We are not responsible for what another member says or does, whether online or in person, and to the extent the law allows, our liability to you is limited — noting that members pay nothing.

Nothing here removes a right you have under Canadian consumer protection law that cannot be waived.

These terms are governed by the laws of British Columbia and the laws of Canada that apply there, and the courts of British Columbia have jurisdiction.

If we change these terms we will update the date at the top. If a change materially affects you, we will tell you rather than expect you to check.
